Discovery is broken: why a trainer’s reputation resets every gig, and what we are building instead
Every good trainer in Malaysia has the same problem, and almost none of them name it. Their best work does not travel. It happened, people in the room felt it, and then it went nowhere.
How a trainer gets hired today
Watch it happen. A boutique training provider wins a brief slightly outside its bench. Someone posts in a Facebook group: “Looking for a trainer for negotiation skills, KL, next month.” Forty replies. Half are “PM sent”. The provider opens a dozen profiles that all say the same three things, calls two people they already know, and books the one who answers first.
Or an HR manager asks a colleague. Or a WhatsApp chain lights up. Or a vendor list from 2021 gets pulled out again. There is no functioning marketplace here. There is the informal status quo: feeds, referrals, gatekeeping, memory.
It works, in the way a bicycle with one pedal works. Everyone gets somewhere. Nobody gets there well.
What resets
Take a trainer who has delivered, say, three hundred sessions over eight years. Some were ordinary. Some changed how a team runs. A few companies would hire her tomorrow without a call.
Where is that? It is in her head. It is in three training providers’ opinion of her, which they hold privately and use as leverage. It is in a Facebook post from 2023 that nobody scrolls back to. It is in a testimonial in a PDF she attaches to proposals, which the reader discounts because she chose it.
Next month a company that has never heard of her needs exactly what she does. She introduces herself from the beginning. Sends a profile. Hopes. Her three hundred sessions count for nothing in that conversation, because nothing holds them.
That is the wound. In Malaysian training, everyone restarts from zero, every gig.
Why directories did not fix it
Directories list claims. A trainer writes what they are good at, adds a headshot, picks some categories. The reader gets forty of these and they are indistinguishable, because a claim is free to make. Promo channels amplify the same claims. Neither holds what actually happened.
The thing missing is not a better list. It is a record. A place where a session that was delivered, a booking that was confirmed and a rating that was given by the person who paid are captured once and stay.
What real means
Most trainer directories optimise for polish. Headshots, taglines, glossy programme decks. We are trying something else. A record that shows the rough edges of a real practice: accreditation in progress, programme three on its second rewrite, a rating that says the afternoon session was better than the morning.
The point is not to look ready. It is to be honest about the work, and to let the people who paid for it say what it was like.
What we are building
WisdomHub is a marketplace with a record underneath it. Companies and training providers search for programmes, send briefs, book trainers. Underneath, every booking made through WisdomHub is captured, every rating comes from the company or training provider that made the booking, and every piece of participant feedback comes from someone who sat in the room.
Three things make it a record rather than a listing.
- It compounds. Bring what you already have. It stays, and every booking after it stacks on top. Two years in, your record introduces you.
- The proof is not yours to write. You do not ask for ratings on WisdomHub, and they cannot be bought or self-authored. WisdomHub asks both sides to rate once a booking is completed. Your ratings come only from the company or training provider that booked you through WisdomHub. The ratings section on your profile sits empty until launch. Its emptiness is the proof that it cannot be gamed.
- Every piece says where it came from. Verified means WisdomHub verified it against HRD Corp. Self-declared means you added it. Earned means someone who paid you said it. A company sees which is which.
What we are not
We are not a directory, and we will not become one by adding more filters to a list of claims. We are not a promo channel, and we will not sell placement that changes the order of search results. We are not a training provider. On a self-funded booking we hold the company’s payment and pay you, but you agree the work directly with the company that hired you.
We hold what happened, and we let the people who hired you say it.
What we are asking
Register. Complete the five profile items: the basics, a biography, your TTT certificate or exemption, your HRD Corp accreditation certificate and one published programme. Do it while the marketplace is quiet, so that on launch day your record is ready and already has something in it.
The rating row will be empty on launch day. So will everyone’s. The trainer who fills it first is the one who stopped starting from zero.
Questions trainers ask
Is WisdomHub a trainer directory?
No. A directory lists what trainers say about themselves. WisdomHub is a marketplace with a record underneath it: bookings made through WisdomHub, ratings only from the companies and training providers that made them, participant feedback from people who attended. Each piece is labelled by where it came from.
Can trainers ask for reviews on WisdomHub?
No. Ratings are only possible once a booking made through WisdomHub is completed, and only by the two sides of it: the trainer, and the company or training provider that booked. Participant feedback comes through a link shared after a real session. Neither can be requested, bought or self-written.
Why is the ratings section empty before launch?
Because no bookings have happened yet. Ratings open at launch and can only be earned through completed bookings. An empty row that cannot be filled any other way is the evidence the system works.
What does WisdomHub charge?
Registration and profile building are free before launch. After launch, trainers choose a plan: Starter free, Growth RM69 a month, Pro RM119 a month. Credits pay for responding to briefs, for Programme Builder drafts and for programme swaps beyond your plan’s free ones. Pay for a paid plan by card and it renews on that card. Pay by FPX and we send a payment link 7 days before each renewal.
Who is WisdomHub for?
Independent corporate trainers in Malaysia, the boutique training providers who source them, and the companies that book training. All three use the same record.
A career record that compounds: your training track record and HRD Corp hours
Stop starting from zero. Every booking, rating and training hour should still be working for you next year.
Why register before launch: what closes on launch day and what you keep
Five items, one deadline. What a complete profile on launch day gets you, and what it costs to wait.
Ratings that build your reputation: booking ratings and participant feedback
Both sides of a booking rate the delivery and the working relationship. Participant feedback is separate. Keeping the two apart is what makes both worth reading.
